Cold and Snow

It's cold!
It's snowing! Nothing major, but still snowing!
Our high today will only be 38 degrees!
Burrrrr!!!!

Took this photo from my kitchen window.
I was too cold and lazy to walk outside!
I think it will be a good day to do some baking.

Crazy Cloud Formation

Mother Nature seems to be a bit unstable or unsettled, however you want to look at it.
We have had some crazy weather this week!
Snow, Wind, Rain, Snow, Sleet, Ice, Brief Sun, Freezing temps!

I just happened to see this crazy cloud formation on my way out to do chores the other evening!
You can just see a touch of green starting to appear in the hay field as well.

Spring is trying to make an appearance!

Did You Say...SNOW!

YES, IT SNOWED HERE!
IT SNOWED A LOT!
Sorry, I'm done shouting now!
We knew there was a storm coming, but had no clue it was going to dump snow on us overnight!
It started raining around midnight and I could hear the steady fall of it throughout most of the night.
At some point though, it turned to SNOW!
We so need the moisture and I'm all for rain, lots of rain, but...
I'm SO NOT ready for the snow!

I left for work at my usual time after being forewarned about how bad the road was in our valley, made it about 7 miles down the road and slide right off into the bar-ditch!
Ripped the license plate right of the front of my car I did!
I turned around and went home mumbling cursing all the way about how much I dislike loath the snow!

Hubby was very sweet and warmed up his truck to take me to town cause I needed to get to the office.
I stopped at the office and picked up work to bring back home to do.
No way was I going to sit at my desk all day and worry about what the hell our road was going to be like for my drive home. I'm a worrier like that and then I become non-productive!
We ran a couple of errands that needed taking care of and then headed back for the farm.

It was STILL SNOWING!
There was about 6 inches on the top of our little pass that leads in/out of the valley!
The valley floor had about 4 inches and the roads were a horrible, snowy, slicker than snot, muddy mess!

I have spent the day working from home wondering if the storm was going to pass or hang around.
The storm is still hanging over us and we are forecast to receive more snow over night.
Oh goody...NOT!

"It seems as if winter is impatient to show her chilly, frozen face."

It's Fall Y'all

September has gone by WAY TO FAST!
At work, it's the end of the project year for me!
Which means my month has been full of wrapping up projects, doing end of year reports and all of this on top of the normal, every day work load.
It's been busy!

But I couldn't let September end without an official fall post.
I think fall is probably my favorite season.
Well, I like all of the season really, but there is just something special about fall that beckons to me.

I've had my camera (the camera on my iPhone) handy to capture some early fall happenings around the farm.

There have been crazy midnight storms rolling through!
The kind that wake you up from a sound sleep, only to make you
wonder what the hell is going on!
The kind with lightning and thunder that make you want to hide under the bed.
The kind that make the weather change over night!
The kind that bring much needed rain, but we just didn't need it yet as we still have hay on the ground!

The morning this photo was taken, there was snow on the ridge line on the mountain range in front of us.

Fall ushers in the end of summer nights and beckons early fading light.
The last full moon of summer rising over the farm!

Fall brings...
Cool, crisp mornings with a sky so blue and sun so bright it makes your eyes hurt!
The clouds just seemed suspended in the morning sky.

Fall also brings our 24th wedding anniversary!
And a really cool gift and flowers!
Yes, I said really cool gift!
Not many gals would find a gun safe "a really cool" gift, but I do!
And 24 years with my Hayman...Wow!

Fall makes you think of holidays and...
 Turkeys!
Big Tom Turkeys!
And extra chores!
Doing the chores on a fall morning is just different than any other time of the year!

Fall brings extra work events...
Like petting zoo's!
The evening I worked this event, it was 40 degrees outside!
The kids helping me were cuddling the animals to stay warm!

And fall also brings dinner with friends we haven't seen in a long while and really good wine!
That bottle on the right...was AMAZING!
And if you've never tried chocolate wine, well you must!
And fall is the perfect time to do so!

Happy Fall Y'all!

Cloud Burst

Tired of clouds yet?
Hope not, as I seem to be fascinated by them lately.

Coming home on Tuesday evening I was treated to a beautiful sight as I dropped into our valley.
It had been stormy off and on all day.
The winds were blowing once again.

At the south end of the valley, the clouds were dropping and changing rapidly.
I noticed one cloud formation so I slowed down and I waited to see what it would do.
A micro-burst formed!
I could see the wind swirl up off the desert floor and the cloud started to fan out.
Micro-bursts can produce some pretty intense winds!
The light was changing fast as the clouds moved and I didn't think any of the photos would turn out.
I was wrong!
I love the shot I captured below!
Mother nature can be so beautiful even when she is behaving badly!

The rest of the drive home was filled with cloud bursts happening all around the valley.

Low hanging clouds stretch before me as I travel the road home.

Cloud Filled Sky

The other evening, on my drive home from work, I slowed down to take a few photos of the cloud filled sky.
This was looking north in our valley and the sky was just full of fluffy, low hanging clouds.
Just after you round the bend in the road, you would see our hay fields.
They are greening up nicely now.

A Beautiful Nevada Sky!

Speckled with White

Our weather was beautiful last week!
We got a tad spoiled!

A storm blew in on Sunday!
Horrid wind!
Pelting rain!
Power outage!

Monday morning dawned windy and cold!
And it snowed over night!

The mountains around us were speckled with white!
It only reached 42 degrees for a high on Monday!

Today, Wednesday, it is supposed to reach 69 degrees!
What a difference a few days makes!

Sprinter

"Sprinter"
Is simply a mix of spring and winter.
It is the "norm" around here now and usually right up through May.

Here's hoping that April will bring many spring showers our way!

Where's the Road

Yesterday morning I awoke to the wind blowing hard.
We were supposed to get a storm over night that would bring snow.
I looked out the kitchen window and there really wasn't much new snow to speak of.
I got ready for work.
Just before leaving the house my phone rang, it was Kristee letting me know that the schools were on a two hour delay due to the weather conditions.
I asked, "what weather conditions?"
She then told me that town received a lot of snow over night and the roads and hwy were a mess!

Hubby said not to worry, as he was heading to town early for parts, and would behind me all the way.
So we headed out.
As we started the climb out of the valley, the snow got deeper and deeper.
Nobody else had been over the road yet and I was in the lead.

I got to the top of the hill and started down the other side.
I knew I was on the road, but you couldn't see it!
It was solid snow from edge to edge!
I kind of felt like Louis and Clark...forging ahead into the unknown.
I stopped at the end of the road so I could get out and wipe off my tail lights as they were covered in packed snow.
Hubby pulled up behind me and asked if I was having a problem coming down the hill cause I was all over the road. He was laughing!
"No problem" I said, "just couldn't see the damn road!

The hwy was slick, so the rest of the drive to town and work was on the slow side.
We were pretty shocked when we got to town and saw all of the snow!
And what a mess!
The storm really dumped a load over most of town.
Some areas got only a few inches, while other areas got up to 12 inches!
We had 8 inches at my office!

Cold and Quiet

The cold and below zero temps have persisted for weeks!
The fog rolls in every morning and blankets the valley in a cold, frosty quiet!
The chickadees work over the tumbleweeds to get at the seeds.
The little birds didn't even fly when I stopped to take this shot.
I rolled down the window part way to snap the photo and that was a mistake as it didn't want to roll back up when I was done!
The weatherman says a "warming" trend is on the way.
Our lows will hover in the teens and our highs will reach the 30's.
The 30's will feel like a heatwave!

Every Changing Sky

Last week brought a blast of winter weather our way.
Coming home last Wednesday from work I was admiring the pretty scene ahead of me while driving north on the highway home.
I turned onto our road, pulled over and got out to take some photos.

This is looking northeast from my vantage point on our road.
This shot is looking directly north from my vantage point.
The mountains were lined with snow and the sky was a pretty light blue and gray.
On the way home, I happened to notice a man off on the side of the road taking photos but I couldn't figure out what he was taking photos of. Well, when I turned around from taking my own shots this is what I saw....and most likely what the man on the side of the road was capturing with his camera.
These wicked looking clouds were forming directly behind me toward the southeast.
There was an angry squall moving over town at that moment and the clouds were ominous looking!
So I had two views to capture in the photos and they were literally taking place side by side as I snapped away!

There is a saying we like to use here in Nevada, "if you don't like the weather, wait five minutes and it will change." This is certainly proof of that!

Chilly October Morning

Woke up to more snow this morning!
It was down right cold too!
Had to break out the winter down vest!
On my way to work, I stopped and snapped a photo of the snow on the mountains around us.
I like the contrast of colors in the photo.
Fall and Winter....dueling!

Just a Dusting

Woke up to the sound of rain this morning.
The sound of rain is one we haven't heard for some time.
As I drove to work and climbed up out of our valley, it started to snow.
Just a dusting covered the mountains around us.
Am I ready for winter...not really, yet we need the rain, so I won't complain. (too much!)

June Snow

A wacky, wild weather system is moving through our area.
Yesterday it brought high winds that ripped trees from the ground!
Today, it brings snow!

Outside my office door!
 Big Fat Flakes!

Fickle Weather

In recent days the weather has alternated between temps in the low 60's to windy to rainy to snow.
A weekend storm produced a white blanket of the fluffy stuff, twice!
We woke up yesterday to snow on the ground.
A very wet snow!
By yesterday afternoon most of that first snow was melting.
Late yesterday evening it started to snow again.
This time the flakes were falling in soft, fluffy form.
This morning the valley was covered in a blanket of white.

It really looks like soft, fluffy clouds covering the ground.
The official start of spring is a mere few days away...
but winter isn't willing to give up so easily!
(this is really only the third or fourth good snow we have had all winter!)

I Wonder

Storm clouds rolled through our area yesterday.
On the way home from town my daughter who was driving pointed out the scene below.
I made her stop on the county road so I could take some photos before we continued our journey home.
I liked the cloud formation and the little rainbow was an added bonus.

I wonder...was there a pot of gold at the end of that rainbow?

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

Thursday's Things in a Row

Snow rows!
Taken Tuesday morning while the wind howled and the snow swirled!

Snow stuck in the design on the back door formed rows.

Sometimes rows we see everyday don't get noticed until something makes them stand out.

Be sure to visit Pat at A View from the Edge for more Thursday's Things in a Row.

Blowing Sideways

Yesterday, March 5, was a beautiful day.
The temp was in the 60's and breezy.

Last night the wind really picked up!
During the night I could hear it howling and banging things around outside!
This morning we woke up to this!

Snow!
Blowing snow!
Blowing sideways snow!
40 to 50 mph gusts!

So I'm home as I refuse to drive in to work in weather like this!
Call me what you will...chicken, wimp, pansy!
I call it cautious, prudent, safe!
If I can't see the road, then I sure as heck know others can't see me on it!

There is a house in this photo...but you can't see it!
Looking out my kitchen window. Blowing snow is sticking to the screen.
 Looking toward the chicken coop.
You really can't tell from the photo, but the wind is whipping the snow all around!
The weather report is calling for it to be like this most of the day!
Unless something changes, I think a book and blanket are calling my name!

On My Way and A Tune for Tuesday

It snowed here yesterday!
Roughly 3 inches or so!
It was pretty!
And then it melted!

On my way to work this morning this is the view that greeted me before I started up the hill out of the valley.
The sun was just peaking over the hill.
The scene made me think of a song.
It's a Beatles song, but Colbie Caillet covered it and well, I like it!
This song makes me SMILE!

Playing Catch Up

This is the view that awaited me as I left the farm this morning.
The sunlight was just peeking through the clouds and a light drizzle of rain was starting to fall.
It has been raining here since late last Saturday afternoon!
At times, it dumps buckets of rain at a time!

On Sunday we had a huge puddle in front our house that was several inches deep!
I'm beginning to think we live in the Pacific Northwest with all of this wet weather!
The temperatures remain on the chilly side. Last week we had two nice days in the 70's, this week...we are back to the 50's for highs! The fields on the farm and around our valley are very green but things don't grow well in these chilly temps, so the alfalfa is short at this point!
It really needs to warm up...and SOON!

Last weekend was busy!(understatement) Countrychick and I worked a fundraiser event on Saturday...all day!
The weather was wild, windy and crazy!

Sunday we spent complaining about our aches and pains from standing all day on Saturday.
It snowed on Sunday...big, fat, sticky flakes! It also hailed, rained, wind blew like crazy and the sun peeked out for all of ten minutes!

One of our favorite hens died over the weekend. Sad!
The crappy weather is hard on the chickens!

I found out I can't purchase SD cards that will work in my camera anymore!
The new SD cards will not format correctly!
Guess I need to start looking into a new camera as well as a new computer!

Things are starting to kick into high-gear at work!
We are on pins and needles waiting on budget hearings to close and to find out what the status of our Cooperative Extension state wide will be! They are calling for a 72% cut!

I have meetings almost every day this week!
I have to unload 600 trees this afternoon (with help), but I wore the wrong shoes! I'm in flats! Ugh!

I ran over a Nevada Chukar bird on my out of the valley this morning!
I felt TERRIBLE!
They are such pretty birds and their populations are not all that strong in some areas.

This chukar is sitting on top of my parents garage. I snapped this photo when we were in town for prom weekend. These birds are pretty, not usually seen very often and have a very distinctive call...chuk, chuk, chuk, chukar. I still feel bad about hitting one this morning!

As I type this it has started to rain...again...in bucket amounts!

I just want to go curl up with a good book and hide!
It's a proven fact that crappy weather is not a good motivator...at all!
