Yummy Goodness On A Stick

Yesterday, I made these!

(Yes, from scratch! Trust me, it's not hard to do!)

 Today, I ate them! For breakfast! With coffee!
A pleasant way to start a chilly fall morning if you ask me!

(Okay, I sent a few to town for friends, so I shared. Didn't want to seem stingy or anything.)

It just wouldn't seem like fall without a plate of these yummy treats to enjoy!

Thursday's Things In A Row

It's Thursday and that means it's time for Thursdays Things In A Row hosted by Pat.

I took a little work related trip last weekend to central Nevada.

I spent the weekend with 13 teenagers at a leadership conference.

On Saturday we spent part of the day touring Tonopah, Nevada.

I had not been there in years.

We actually use to live not to far up the road from Tonopah back in the late '80's early '90's.

We do pass through there on our way to Arizona every so often, but we don't stop for more than a short break.

I'm glad our leadership conference was held there as we had a great time!

We were able to tour various places in town and I found plenty of things in a row to photograph.

Below, jugs and lights in a row high on a shelf in the only coffee house in town.

 While touring the local mining park I noticed these insulators high up on a building...in a row.

 Levers in one of the mining park mill houses...all in a row.

It seemed as if the operator just walked away and they now await his return.

 Buildings with lots of windows in a row awaiting renovation.

The building below will actually be the new convention center in Tonopah when renovations are complete.

Wordless Wednesday ~ Fog

Fog in the valley ~ October 17, 2011

As I drove out of the valley on Monday morning and looked behind me in the rear view mirror, this is what beckoned me to stop the car and get my camera! Fog is not unheard of during the winter months, but a foggy morning in October is rarely seen! 

High Desert Fall Rewind

I came across the photos below on a disk the other day while looking for another photo.

They show our favorite high desert lake in all its fall splendor.

The lake sits just above 7000 feet.

The photos were taken in early October of 2006.

I haven't been back to the lake since I took these photos that fall.

Hubby has gone a few times, but his trips just don't seem to jive with my work schedule.

All of the photos were taken on the same trip which spanned three days as I recall.

The photo below is my favorite!

 The lake is surrounded on all sides by pines, aspens, cottonwoods and junipers.

You actually have to hike in as there is not a road that accesses the lake anymore.

 This lone tree sits on a hill side bedecked in fall color.

"The beauty of the land will speak to you, if you are willing to stop and listen."

Why?

Who knows!

Maybe because it's Monday and I long for the weekend already!

Maybe because the weather is changing and the cold makes me achy and cranky!

Maybe it's PMS (seems like that is a continuous issue anymore, thanks to the perimeno crap)!

Maybe because it rained today and the rain makes me want to curl up with a book, read and cat nap, but can't do that at work...might get in trouble!

Maybe because I looked at my work calendar this week and flipped out because I have three late evening meetings which puts me home really late on those nights!

Maybe because my boss walked into my office today and told me to come up with questions for a really important meeting that will take place on Thursday. Seriously! We have known about this meeting meeting for over a month and now he wants me to come up with questions...gee thanks!

Maybe because I realize there just isn't enough time to do everything that needs to be done anymore!

There are days when I just want to blow a big razzberry at life!

Or stick out my tongue until my face freezes that way!

I know..childish thinking, but hey, that's how I'm feelin' at the moment!

I usually never post the negative...but today, I had to get it off my chest!

Thursday's Things In A Row

I actually forgot that today was Thursday! Silly me, I've been one day behind all week!

So it's time once again for Thursday's Things In A Row hosted by Pat.

Fire on the Mountain

On Friday evening, 9/30 our area was hit with a dry lightning storm!

The clouds had been building all afternoon and around 3 p.m. the winds kicked up and blew the storm in!

The photo below was taken after I got home from work while sitting outside with the hubby and daughter.

Shortly after the photo was taken all hell broke loose!

There were lightning strikes hitting all along the mountain range directly in front of us!

We actually saw the strike that started the fire on the mountain in front of us.

The wind picked up and the south end of the valley turned black from dirt that was being kicked up.

We actually had food on the grill and had to grab everything and make a mad dash indoors as the wind howled up our valley like a freight train!

The hubby was almost knocked over as the wind turned violent and closed in on us!

There was nothing we could do but wait out the wind storm and listen to things blowing away outside!

At one point I heard a loud crash coming from the back yard section outside.

Shortly thereafter our daughter's dog showed up on the front porch.

I said that I thought the dog kennel had blown away and hubby told me he didn't think so.

I was right!

The photo below shows where the dog kennel used to be!

And where it ended up...upside down!

It narrowly missed hitting our electrical box, the box to our well and the trees!

The dog was less than impressed that his house blew away!

The dog kennel photos were taken the following morning...after the furry of the storm had passed!

After the winds calmed a bit we ventured outside and the only thing we could see was the glow coming from both fires that had started on the mountain range in front of us!

A big, bright orange glow filled the night sky for hours!

There was nothing to do but go to bed and wonder what we would see come morning!

The daughter and I had to be up early and in town for a horse show that our county 4-H program was hosting. After doing chores and taking photos of the wind damage, we headed out of the valley.

This is what awaited us at the other end!

The fire was on our side and coming down into the valley! The flames were clearly visible and there were no fire crews in sight as they were on the other side fighting the fire that had, at that point, turned into a monster!

This is the view from our vantage point at the county fairgrounds where the horse show took place.

The view progressively got worse as the day went on!

The storm actually started over 25 fires in our county in a matter of an hour or so on Friday night!

The air fire tanker in the photo below was headed to a fire that was burning to the east of town in Eden Valley! The fire tankers didn't hit our fire until late Saturday and early Sunday!

This was the view we saw while driving home on Saturday afternoon.

At this point the fire was burning over 20,000 acres and had jumped Hwy 95 and was heading toward a housing area known as Paradise Ranchos!

A shot of what the fire had already burned as we headed home, back into our valley!

Hubby took this photo mid afternoon on Saturday.

The fire had picked up speed and actually jumped the ridge line and started burning down onto our side of the mountain directly across from our place!

This shot shows the hay pivots at Sand Pass. The fire was less then 1/2 mile away!

Saturday night hubby took a tractor and disk down to the pivots and made a fire break around the hay stacks! I went to pick him up around 11:30 p.m. and the sight of the fire burning at that time was amazing!

I wish I could have taken photos, but my camera just doesn't take good night shots!

Countrychick took the next two photos on Saturday evening from our front porch.

 The fire was burning directly in front of a neighboring farm at this point!

This was the view from our front porch on Sunday morning!

The fire crews were finally able to attack the fire on our side of the mountain late morning on Sunday.

The helicopter flew in and out of the valley dropping water on the fire and the planes dropped the bright red boron on the highest most peaks to stop the progression of the flames.

The flames were finally put out around 5 p.m. on Sunday evening.

As of this morning, 10/3 the official word from BLM on the Sand Pass, China Garden fire is 21,068 acres burned! Full containment is expected later today, October 3, 2011.
