See his shadow?
This is not a groundhog per say, but it is the closest thing we have here in Nevada.
This is a marmot, a cousin to the groundhog.
I spotted him or her late last spring while on a field trip with our home-school group. I was able to get fairly close for the photos. He or she was a fat little thing. I guess the little critter must have wanted it's fifteen minutes of fame as it decided to pose nicely for these photos.
So what's it going to be folks.....six more weeks of winter or an early spring?
Happy Groundhog Day!

Very cute photos, Sis! He needs a name...how about Nevada Chubbs? Keep up the fabulous photography and Happy Nevada Chubbs Day! =)
Ha, Ha...Love the Nevada Chubbs name. He will forever be known as "Nevada Chubbs."
Those are excellent photos of your Marmot! I've never seen that one up close before.
I'm going to go for Early Spring...only because that's what I'm wishing for. lol! :)

ps. I didn't know you were a home school family too. Cool!
I think she/he did or didn't!! I want to know who the heck can speak groundhog anyway, poor Phil, he just can't get any respect.
He is adorable. I can just imagine his little nose twitching in the cool air. If I was a groundhog, or a marmot, I'd scoot my furry little butt back underground where it was cozy and warm.
Great shot of the marmot!
I don't care what the groundhogs or marmots saw......shadow or not, I'm hoping for an early spring. We are back in the sub-zero deep-freeze again.....winter needs to take a hike!
Maybe I said it before, but am saying it again.....you picked the perfect background and color combos for your blog....just beautiful!
I do believe it is time for Ol' Phil to retire! His eyesight has gone bad on him!
I've got Voles (I noticed yesterday) already starting their destruction..and if the ground is thawed enough for them, there is tender 'greens' to eat...I'd say SPring won't be late this year!
Love your photos and blog. Thanks for sharing!
