Birthdays, Beer, Football And A Contest

Here are a few photos from my Mother's birthday party. We met at our local favorite Mexican restaurant for dinner. Mom ordered herself a beer.......way to go mom!
Dad wanted to know why we had to give mom so many flowers....I gave her flowers and my sister ordered a nice arrangement too. My brother sent her a beautiful basket filled with plants. Flowers make my father sneeze....over and over and over again.

Cowboy M. did not want his photo taken. Not matter how hard I tried or how sneaky I tried to be, he was always one step ahead of me with the napkin. Silly Kid!
After our meal was finished and the beer was gone.....the waitress headed our way with a special treat for mom. The owner and another waiter were with her and they all sang Happy Birthday to mom...we joined in and the singing was loud and fun....probably from all of that beer drinking.....ha, ha. Notice the lovely pink sombrero, I think it looks lovely on mom. I had purchased a yummy carrot cake, so we all enjoyed a wonderful dessert. A great time was had by all.

We will repeat this little scene this coming Friday night as we celebrate Countychick's 16th birthday. Holly Cow...where did the years go!!! We are going to throw her a nice little party on Friday evening, even though her birthday is not until Monday the 9th. We will be gone on the 9th. I will be in our southern most big city for a weeks worth of training and Countrychick and Hayman will be in Arizona visiting his folks. So we will party, party, party on Friday night. No beer this time......well, no beer for Countrychick and friends, but I just might need one or two to get over the shock of my baby turning 16!!!
There are a few milestones in our family this year. Mom turned 80 in January, Countrychick turns 16 this month and my parents will also celebrate their 59th wedding anniversary. I will turn 40 in July on the 4th to be exact. My father will turn 80 in August. And finally Hayman and I will celebrate 20 years of marriage in September. See.....lots of milestone events taking place this year! Exciting!!
Okay, now for a bit of football talk. Today is Super Bowl Sunday. No big plans for us. We are staying home to watch the game. I will make snacks and of course there will probably be beer. I sent Hayman to the store to buy goodies....so I'm sure he will get beer. What is my obsession with beer today? I'm not a big beer drinker.....it is usually wine for me. Maybe it is some sort of weird beer phase. Gee, makes me sound like some beer junkie. Well whatever it is, I'm sure it will pass. So we are excited about the teams in the Super Bowl. Truth be told, I am pulling for the Arizona Cardinals to win. We have friends that are Steelers fans, but hey, they won't be here, so Go Cardinals Go!! Hayman and Cowboy M. are Dallas Cowboys fans. Hayman has been a Cowboys fan since he was five....yes, five. He has stuck with them through thick and thin. That is what a true fan does. They don't switch or change teams when "their" team is stinking it up. They hang with that team no matter what. Cowboy M. has been a Cowboys fan since he was little as well. He and Hayman just tough it out together when the team starts out well, then falls apart near the end. Countrychick is a Colts fan. You can't talk to her for a few hours if they happen to lose a game. I am a Carolina Panthers fan. Yes, you read that correctly. I had never been a huge football fan, but when the expansion teams came out in the 90's, I decided to pick a team. They would forever be my team and I would stick with them through thick and thin. I loved their team name and colors and I have always had a fascination with the Carolina's.....north and south. So the Carolina Panthers are my team. Why am I telling you all of this.....I have no clue. Just thought you might like to know my families take on football teams. We like football and we will enjoy today's game.......GO CARDINALS!
With all of that said, I now think I will tempt you with a little contest. It has nothing to do with football or birthdays. It is totally unrelated to either of those subjects. In honor of my 105th post, I'm going to do a little give-away. With Valentine's day just a few weeks away, I find myself scanning the TV channels for "chick flicks"....you know, feel good movies that us gals like to watch and men just don't get. Some of my favorite chick flicks are the following.......Sleepless in Seattle ( just watched it the other night and forced Hayman to watch it too.), You've Got Mail, French Kiss, When Harry Met Sally....(Hmmmm, I seem to like Meg Ryan movies), All Nicholas Sparks movies, The Holiday, A Good Year, Fifty First Dates, Under the Tuscan Sun, Catch and Release, Hope Floats and Somethings Gotta Give. Okay, I could go on, but I won't. I love to curl up on the couch or bed, watch a chick flick, eat chocolate, drink wine and paint my nails. It's fun and relaxing. Just the kind of pick me up a girl needs now and again. So in honor of this, my 105th post, I'm going to give away a "chick flick" goodie bag. The winner will receive two movies(possibly one of the ones named above), a little nail kit and polish for a do it yourself manicure, chocolate and more chocolate. I would love to send wine, but I don' t want to get in trouble with the United States Postal Service for sending wine through the mail and besides, some states are dry states and you can't mail wine or any alcohol into these states. So no wine in the give-away. So all you have to do to enter this contest is to leave me a comment in the comments section telling me what your favorite chick flick is or just what your favorite movie is. The contest will run through Wednesday morning, 9 a.m. pacific time. I will announce the winners on Wednesday evening.
Happy Super Bowl Sunday to all. I'm going to go make some goodies to eat later today and put the beer on ice.

I too turn 40 in July (the 21st). Is it hitting you as hard as me?
My favorite chick flick? Hmmm, let me think....Bridges Over Madison County, when I'm feeling like a good cry, and 50 First Dates when I'm feeling like a laugh.
Glad you're a Panther's fan as in live in NC. he he

I'm glad your Mom made the most of her birthday. I'll bet she's a lot of fun to be with.

It's been a birthday party weekend around our place too.

Lots of partying going around in bloggy world...Happy Bday to your Mom...Love the sombrero!

You should try the movie "In the Land of Women." It has Meg Ryan. Also "The Women" has her in it too. Both were interesting.

My fave chick flick is The American President...I have watched that movie a bazillion times!

Hey Sis, great photos of Mom! I especially love the pink birthday sombrero! You captured Dad pretty well too, with his typical "Dad" look. I didn't realize all of the family milestones happening this year...wow! Where's my calendar???

I have a few favorite flicks to add to your chick flick list. Besides the movies you listed, all of which I truly enjoy (as you well know), my other favorite chick/comfort movies are: A Good Year, Chocolat, and No Reservations. Obviously, these originate from the wine lover, foodie & wannabe chef in my soul since they are all variations on a theme of food and drink. What can I say...it runs in the family!

Congrats on your 105th post! Long may you blog, dear Sister. Hugs! =)

What a fun, exciting post..and festive, too! Your Mom is such a good sport wearing that hat and being the star for the night. She's a beautiful lady, even without the sombrero. Mmmmmm, but what is that in front of her dripping in whipped cream and chocolate syrup? Yummo!

Football...not really a fan...ever since the Colts were taken away from us in Maryland. I was so sad for weeks and still get bristly thinking about it.
We lived in South Carolina for 7 yrs, so we were into the Panthers for quite a while until some of the team members started having all sorts of personal and legal problems.

Now that we live in New Mexico, with no pro footbal teams, I've just lost interest. ho hum. :(

Beer....Haven't had one for months and months! I love dark beer, creamy, rich, vanilla, choclately porter beer! :)

Milestones? Woot! You do have alot of milestones coming up this year. A 40th Birthday on July 4th!! What a celebration!
When is your anniversary in Sept.? We're close behind you. Our 19th anniversary is this May. And I turn 44 on Sept. 4th. It seems like the 40's steam by even faster than the 30's did. whew!

Chick flicks? I've sadly been sheltered from movies. Just never know what's a good movie to watch.
If I have to share my favorites, I'd say "Hidalgo" (Horses. yay! And Vigo is cute!).
"Sahara" for Matthew McConahey(sp). He's hot bare-chested! Mmmm!
hehe
And I also love to watch musicals, too. My Fair Lady is one of my favorites. :)

With me being bedbound for several months, you'd think I'd be watching tons of movies, but I end up blogging instead, because I never what are the good movies to watch. lol!

Have a great week! :)

Hey, I missed the contest deadline, but what a great idea! Very sweet of you for a Valentine time treat.

Your mom looks just gorgeous in the pink sombrero....you better frame that photo!

And, wow...yes, what alot of special milestones you will celebrate this year. Last year, Husband and I turned 50 and our marriage turned 30, and I thought that was alot in one year....but, you've got way more going on. Have fun with all of it.....especially your 4th of July birthday. That is cool. You are so young, though.....that's not fair!

Make Merlot...Ok?
