The Nest

A little house finch built a nest inside the grill and behind the headlight of my husbands truck.
We had to remove the nest yesterday.
I noticed right off that one of the eggs was very different from the others.
I suspect a cowbird somehow squeezed between the grill and managed to lay an egg in the nest.
Momma finch felt safe building her nest where she did, but it was not a safe choice as the truck moves and is gone for hours at a time.
It was kinder to remove the nest rather than let her sit on eggs that would never hatch.
Or worse yet, have the nest catch on fire and burn the truck to the ground!

Reminds me of that song from Sesame Street...."One of these is not like the other" ha ha ha

I wonder if the bird will ever come back to hatch the eggs. Did you put the nest up in a tree?

Now I'm really curious to see what happens with this little nest. Keep us updated.

You never know where a bird nest might end up. Good to see a blogpost from you.

That would be rather difficult to sit on a nest at 70mph. or when someone is grillin burgers. We had one build a nest in our fake ficus on the porch

Have a great day!
