Fair Recap...Why I Do What I Do!

The last week of August is a very, very busy one for me work wise!
It is fair week and the 4-H program that I manage for our county participates in the Labor Day Weekend Fair.

I spend most of August on the go and very busy, but the last week is a doozy!
I haven't really felt all that great this summer due to my neck/back issues, but I've kept plugging along. At times it's been a struggle, but my new motto is...
"Suck it Up Buttercup!"

One of my wonderful 4-H families knew that fair week was going to be tough on me and they sent me these beautiful flowers in the middle of the week to let me know how much they appreciate all that I do!
The flowers made me cry, but they also made me realize just why I do what I do!

During fair weekend, I sit very little as I'm on the run from Friday morning until late Sunday.
I was able to spend some time in the 4-H small animal barn and I caught this moment between two of some of the youngest 4-H'ers!
Priceless!
Again, it's moments like this that remind me why I do what I do!
On Sunday morning, I walked into my office to find gold fish in a trash can!
This totally made me laugh!
One of my 4-H youth needed a place to keep her fish for the day and a hotel trash can and my office did the trick!
I loved having these little fish in my office!
Again, another reminder on why I do what I do!
Lack of sleep is an understatement for fair weekend!
I pretty much looked and felt like the photo below all weekend!
Again, another reminder on why I do what I do!

I do it not because it's my job, but because I value the program I work for!
I do it for the kids, for the youth who are our future!
I do it for them and for the little hidden rewards that surprise me along the way!

4H is a wonderful opportunity for so many children and young adults. Right up there for me along side Scouting.

An equine program began with our 4H several years ago. We loaned a young miniature horse filly to a seven year old girl to train and show. After she won Best in Show and a few other ribbons we gave her the papers and the horse.

To this day that young lady walks through the senior apartment complex every day with Shadow and shows her in many events.

She is a teenager now and has added full size horses but Shadow is her favorite.

Thank you for helping the children know they can do anything.
