The Watcher of the Herd

Meet Steve.
Steve has a job.
Steve is a guard llama.
And he takes his job seriously!
Atleast that's the impression I got!

Steve watches over a small herd of sheep that belong to one of my 4-H leaders.
I got to do a little "out of office" work last week and make a visit to this particular leaders home.
While there, I went over to see the baby lambs!
They are so stink'in cute!
As soon as I approached the gate area, Steve went from a relaxed, sitting position to upright and alert!
He watched me from the corner of his eye as I moved around the fence area and took photos.

Mama sheep and babies!
The little lambs were playing and romping around in the pen!
I was laughing at their antics.
I was heading around to the other side when Steve turned at looked right at me!

 I burst out laughing!
Steve looked so stoic from his side profile, but full on....he made me giggle!
Just look at that llama face!
Steve was not impressed with my giggling!
He had had just about enough of my picture taking and was fed up!
I was a disturbance to his herd!
I think he was contemplating the "spit" move on me!
He was giving me the "evil" eye!

I obliged Steve's request for me to leave.
I really didn't want to clean llama spit off my face or clothes.
But every time I look at this photo, I giggle!
Who couldn't love a face like that!

lol! I know I do! You might remember that I own 2 llamas, a male and female, both siblings. And I just adore them. They can be so very entertaining, and are awesome guard animals. Mine are very protective of my 3 goats, but they are well trained, too. And I take them packing on trail hikes. But most of all I love llama kisses. Their breath smells so uniquely llama and sweet. But their spit...not so much. Thankfully, my llamas are not into spitting (it tastes as bad to them as it smells to us)

Looks like you had a nice visit. Those black faced sheep are so pretty!

Cute little lambs! I know several people who have llamas around here for their goats. Llamas have been known to kill coyotes and wolves and any other animals that get too close to their flocks but are generally okay with humans. People LOVE them for their flocks/herds around here! :)

Maybe THAT'S what I need. A guard llama. They don't bark right?
