Meet Munchie

This is Countrychicks dog, Munchie.
Munchie found us in late October when he wandered onto the farm.
He was hurt, starving and skittish!

We knew he was just a pup (a big pup with big feet!) and figured he was about 6 months old or so.
He took to Countrychick right away!
After a bit of research and also listening to a few stories floating around, we figured out his back story.
His breed is used to hunt mountain lions. He was abandoned on a hunt by his handlers because he either got hurt and ran off or because they lost track of him and didn't care enough to find him.
We don't know how long he wandered on his own, but by the time he found us, he was a mess!
Our original intent was to place him with a local no-kill dog rescue, but they didn't have room for him. (the local pound is not an option!) They asked if we could keep him until they found a foster. I kept in touch with them, but they were not having any luck finding a foster for a large dog during the winter months. (little dogs are much easier to foster out)
The rescue asked that we socialize the dog and work on some basic obedience training.
Countrychick stepped right in and started working with Munchie. (he got his name because when we first started feeding him he would just munch the food and not inhale it as most starving dogs will do)
Countrychick has been very patient with Muchie...he is very puppy like and hard-headed at times.
He is coming along well, but being a scent hound, he has a ways to go yet. He gets distracted easily with scents and sounds.
They start basic obedience and agility classes next week.
Now that is going to be fun to watch!
Munchie has found his forever home with us (much to Haymans dislike), but after having him this long, I just can't imagine sending him away. He and Countrychick have formed a bond and they have been good for each other!

Wow I am so sad that someone would abandon their dog.
That was so nice of you to keep him. You can tell from his face he is just a big ol sweetie!
