Mr. and Mrs. Swallow
Are proud to announce the arrival of their brood. There are four babies in the nest. Momma and daddy swallow are very good parents. Not only did they share the responsibility of sitting on the nest together, but they work very hard together to feed the four hungry mouths peeking out from the nest.
Since the nest was built on top of our front porch light, I had some concern that the eggs would not hatch, as we use the door on a regular basis. But momma swallow became very use to our comings and goings and learned to sit tight and not fly off the nest to much. If you look closely you can see several little heads in the nest.
The babies are growing fast and are all most completely feathered out. They will be two weeks old this week. It won't be long and they will be learning to fly! The baby you see in the photo below is the biggest in the bunch. You can see the flat yellow line of its mouth as it rests its little head on the side of the nest. The babies have not been easy to photography as they hunker down in the nest when you get to close.

Wow, I'm so happy to hear that your baby birds have made it so long and all are still with you. I was so bummed when my baby Robin's disappeared. That nest is so interesting, it's amazing I think how they build them.
Great shot too of the Mom and Dad on the front of the car.
Swallows are certainly fascinating. Their nests are messy, yes, but quite amazing to see. Good detailed nest shots you got here. We have some swallow nests in the barn....they come back every year and use them again, making repairs as needed.
Take care. We are absolutely roasting here today. Good corn-growing weather.
It always amazes me how barn swallows build their nests out of mud they carry in their mouths. Now THAT is devoted parenting.
Interesting pictures of the swallows and nests. They always build their nests in our barn. But like everyone else said they are messy.
We too have nest in our porch rafters. It's amazing how much mess they can make, but worth it to see the birds and babies.
We have a nest on our porch too...momma bird got after Cutie a couple weeks ago...so she is not a bird fan...she already hated chickens!
Oooh! I adore Swallows. They are so pretty and fun to watch. We have two sets nesting in our barn. I am tickled to see my mare's mane and tail hair hanging from their muddy nests along with bits of llama fiber. lol!
Your photos turned out great. Wow! That baby in the last photo looks rather sneaky. hehe!
