Christmas Snow!

It started snowing very early on Christmas Eve day and it didn't stop until sometime around mid morning today. We woke up to this! The power went out shortly after we got up this morning. Usually the power will give a good "bump" and then it will come back on. That is not what it did this morning. So, we opened a few gifts...after we removed the cat from the top of them.

Hayman brought in the camp stove so I could cook breakfast. We were informed that the power would not be back on for hours. I was supposed to cook dinner at our house today....my parents and Cowboy M. were to join us.........plans changed and we had to go to plan B.

Chores were done in the blowing wind and snow....I must say, the chickens are less then impressed with the foot of snow we have on the ground.

We gathered up the presents for my folks and Cowboy M....loaded them in the care and braved the road leading out of our valley.

Everything was covered in a beautiful blanket of white!

This is the view from my parents front yard......snow, lots of very deep snow!

This is the drift that built up in the field in front of the their house.....the goats are baffled by all of the snow. They came out to see what we were doing, then retreated back into their little goat house.
We opened gifts with my parents and Cowboy M. (I will post those photos later as I'm sticking with the snow theme for now.) Like I said earlier, I was supposed to cook our Christmas meal out at our place...but that is hard to do with no power. So we opted for dinner out.....a first for all of us. It was a very nice meal and we were able to visit, laugh and enjoy each other to the fullest. My mom and I agreed that it was a very good idea as there was nothing for us to clean up after the meal. We headed on home after our meal.....before the roads got any worse then they already were. It was a beautiful drive home..........

The photo below was taken just outside of town...I made Hayman pull over so I could take it.

Without these capable hands at the wheel today.......we would not have made the trip to town. The road leading out of our valley was covered in snow...between 10 inches and over a foot in places. The wind had caused drifts that piled up and made driving not so fun! These hands are loving, kind, dependable and strong......and I love them!

As we topped the rise and dropped down into our valley on the way home, this is the sight that awaited us. Usually you would see sand dunes and sagebrush.......today, all you could see was snow.

We continued our journey home....there were chores to do and a house to check on. The power was back on when we got home. Hayman made a nice fire for us and we watched a movie and relaxed. This was a Christmas to remember....one that didn't go as planned, but turned out far better then expected.
Good Night to all.....tomorrow morning will come far to early.

Awwww! I'm glad to read that your Christmas plans turned from not so good to quite wonderful! You sound like one flexible, patient gal. I enjoyed traveling along and seeing all of the beautiful and cold (poor goats and chickens) scenes and vistas. What gorgeous country you live in. Do you find that you pinch yourself at times just to make sure you're not dreaming?

Awww, and I loved reading how much you adore your hubby, too.

Merry Christmas my bloggy friend,

You were truly blessed! No dishes and no cooking and power when you returned home.
Maybe this could be the new tradition!
Snow pictures are absolutely beautiful!
Thank your hubby from me for getting you home safely.

I absolutely LOVE the picture of your hubby's hands and the thoughts behind it. I am such a sentimental mushy girl. Sounds like a great time...I am a planner and when things don't go as planned I kinda flip out...but then it always seems that when things go astray that is when the best memories are made...so go with it! LOL!

Glad to know you all had a wonderful day! Our power never went out. Don't you love all the snow? We went sledding and plan on going again today.

That last picture sure looks familiar. ☺

I love the:

"These hands are loving, kind, dependable and strong......and I love them!"

Great picture! I was going to see my mom but I'm so glad I didn't! You have lot's of snow and I don't think I would know what to do with 4 babies if I were to have gotten stranded in the snow.

Thanks for sharing!

We were supposed to get rain today, but it's still coming down as more snow. Sure is pretty, though!

I hope your power has been restored and that you're back to being toasty & warm inside your home.

I really love what you said about your guy's hands. :o)

Merry Christmas.

I add my love of the picture of your hubby's hands and the words you put with it! All your pictures were great! Somehow I don't think of Nevada and snow together--so I learned something too! We haven't had a real power out yet this winter--I am just waiting. Sounds like you had a fabulous holiday--I remember the year we went out for THanksgiving dinner--it was so nice to just enjoy.
I hope it doesn't sppok you when I am fascinated that we seem to have a lot in common. I have been married 22 years, live in the middle of nowhere, have lived at the end of a dirt lane for 13 years, wish I had chickens but my dogs can't be trusted. Anyways--its just nice to see someone who enjoys being in the middle of nowhere as much as me!
Thanx again for the fabulous gift!

It sounds like a lovely time even if your plans were changed. No dishes sounds great to me. I love those photos of the snow and of your husbands hands. Merry Christmas a little late and I know your New Year will be great.
