I have been a busy little worker bee this past week. I had my first official Awards Program for our 4-H youth and leaders to put on this past Friday night. It was a busy week of getting programs ready, awards sorted, certificates printed, a speech to write, set up and decorating to do....plus all of the other normal daily things that had to be done at work and also at home.
Countrychick won the top 4-H record book medal in her division, the senior division. We are so proud of her!
Countrychick won the top 4-H record book medal in her division, the senior division. We are so proud of her! Each 4-Her must keep complete records of their projects and year, then compile them into a record book which is then judged in competition.
(she also took the photo above this past summer )

Have I ever mentioned that I have a fear of public speaking......well I do! When I applied for this job, I knew that I would have to do a lot of it and you know what....it was okay. I did fine on Friday night. I stood in front of about seventy-five leaders, parents, guests and 4-H youth and I didn't faint, fall apart or forget what I was going to say. Friday night was my first official introduction to our leaders, parents and youth.....most of them know me from my involvement with the program over the last eight years, but not many knew that I was their new 4-H Representative for our county. I had wonderful helpers on Friday evening. Countrychick helped to hand out awards and another young lady, who I will call A. helped by reading the presentations for the 4-H youth. It was a lovely, fun filled evening.
Countrychick, a junior member and I were handing out awards to our little 4-H Cloverbuds. Cloverbuds are not yet actual 4-H'ers, but they do get to participate in clubs and other ways throughout the year. They were so excited to be receiving their goodies and certificates. The best part of my job........working with all of the youth in our program!!I got home late Friday night and have been a lazy bee the rest of the weekend.
Now I must go find our Christmas decorations and tree.........before Countrychick disowns me for not having the house decorated for the holidays.
Happy Sunday to all.....

Congratulations to Countrychick!
And a big pat on the back to you for your public speaking...not in a million years would I be able to do it. I'm glad your job is going well and that you're enjoying it.
Enjoy bee-ing lazy!
Congratulations on completing your first big work project. I knew you would do well, you are such an organized planner!
Congratulations! I knew you could handle this with no problems. Having fun too, admit it, this is not work!
Oh, what a really nice post, Deserthen! Tell Countrychick CONGRATS on her award and that the bee photo is gorgeous!
Glad to hear the awards ceremony went well! You know, you must really love this job if your fear of public speaking has been overridden! That's wonderful!
Surely it is very rewarding to work with the young people, encouraging them towards future endeavors. 4-H is such a good way to do that.
Take care.....I hope you really were lazy this weekend.....you deserve to be!
I just noticed the "Welcome to my world" text on your sidebar. That is very nice and a good idea.
That is so awesome! You really deserve a round of applause. You are doing so much in such a short amount of time! You go girl!
Oh Desert Hen...as soon as you said you had to write a speech, my guts flip-flopped! Oh does SHE have to SPEAK? I thought...no way I'd ever get that feat accomplished! It has never gotten easier the older I've gotten either.
Congrats to CountryChick!
I think this job you have is wonderful because 4-H is a wonderful association that I wish was more abundant around the country like it used to be! Go to some county and state fairs and 4-H just isn't represented like it used to be 20-30 years ago...except in the AG communities, which are diminishing.
So glad you are enjoying your job!
W.O.W.,
My sister is a great speech writer, so she helped me with my speech. I have a terrible fear of public speaking, but I'm getting over it real fast...=) I will be doing a lot of speaking at future
4-H livestock, horse and small animal shows......Hopefully by then I will be much better at it. 4-H is really undergoing some major changes right now.....we still have a strong Ag and livestock program here, but we are also moving into the science, engineering and technology programs as well. I want to see the program that I'm working with grow, expand and thrive in the coming years.....=)
Yes, it's is much easier to talk in rooom full of friends, then one full of strangers. Good for you...and to Country Chick, too!
Buzz...buzz...now try to find a few moments to put your foot up, sip a cup of eggnog and enjoy some Christmas music in front of a cozy fire :)
You deserve it.
