A Whirl Wind Week

Wow! What a week this has been! I can't believe that today is Friday and that I have just about completed my first week of work. It has been an intense week of learning the ropes at my new job. The adjustments will continue to go on for sometime, but I really like this job. The people in my office have been so helpful this week and they are making this transition process very pleasant for me. There is so much to learn, do, etc...and without the benefit of training, I'm left to sort of figure stuff out on my own. I do have State support staff that are guiding me, but they are not in my office...their help and advice comes via the phone or emails. This afternoon, I get to start sorting through 23 years of papers, books and other stuff. I will archive most of it and make room for all of the new stuff that I will be doing from now on.
Right now though, I'm eating lunch at my desk and composing this post...=)
Countrychick came to town with me on Wednesday. She hung out with her Grandma ( my mom ) for the day. She took the photo below and I wanted to share it with you all. This beautiful Christmas Cactus belongs to my mother. She has had it for many years and it always seems to bloom starting in November of every year. One year, it even bloomed twice...once in November and then again in April. The flowers are such a vibrant pink. I hope everyone has a wonderful, beautiful, happy Friday.....

Glad to hear things are going well at the new job. It should only get easier.
The cactus is beautiful and Country Chick did a good job capturing it. My MIL has one and it's always full of blooms this time of year.
Have a great weekend.

Great! A whole week under your belt. I bet you are excited and a little bit overwhelmed. With all your good helpers you will have it organized in no time at all.

My Gramma always had a Christmas cactus as long as I could remember. Her's too bloomed as your Mom's does. I never had much luck with them.
So glad your week is almost over and has gone so well!!!
Sit back, grab a glass of wine (and P-I-Z-Z-A even...) and savor the your weekend!
Here is your letter..."D".
"D" for DesertHen, "D" for dear friend, "D" for always a delight visiting your blog!!!

Hello Ladies...=)

Yes, a week of work under my belt....Whew! Next week will be a short week due to the holiday. Barb, I will have a glass of wine this evening, but Hayman called and said he will be making dinner tonight...I bet he makes tacos, so the pizza will have to wait. Maybe next week....=D

Tell Countrychick and your mom thanks for sharing beautiful Christmas Cactus!

Sounds like you're off and running just fine in your new job adventure! They surely knew what they were doing when they hired you!

Thoughtful of Hayman to fix dinner....have a restful weekend!

Congratulations on the new job!

Also, that Christmas Cactus may well live forever. My Mom's Great Aunt Molly had one. She died almost 70 years ago. Aunt Lois held on to that plant for her in the greenhouse at her florist shop. It loved the greenhouse and last I heard, was still alive and blooming with over 300 flowers!

I love those plants. I wish I weren't so bad with houseplants (I'm a Landscape Architect so that's an embarassing admission)!

You made it through the first week. I'm sure it will become easier as you get in to it. That Christmas cactus is beautiful. My grandmother had one for over 50 years and it was huge. I have never seen another as large as hers. It went to an aunt after she passed away and I don't know if it is still alive. Hope your weekend is restful.

Glad you are enjoying your job. I was wondering how you were liking it. The first two weeks are the hardest - then it gets much easier. The flower is beautiful!
