The Last Of The Season

After watching the weather report all day and looking out my windows at the darkening sky, I decided it was time to stop lolly-gagging around with the garden. For the last few weeks, I have been covering the garden each night to protect it from the chilly temps. As of yet, we have not had a hard, killing frost........but that is about to change. The forecast for this weekend is for valley rain, mountain snow and freezing temps! We still have hay on the ground waiting to be baled, ( we got a drizzle of rain yesterday and it was just enough to slow the haying process down ) so we don't need any more rain right now...........it can hold off just a bit longer while all of us here in the valley get the last of the hay put up.
So, late this afternoon, I told Countrychick to put on a jacket and head to the garden with me.
We picked and picked and picked some more.........
Countrychick kept asking if we were done yet.........
No, there was still more picking to do..........The last of the garden goodies.........ummm, the cherry tomato plant went wild!
I did not realize that there were this many tomatoes left in the garden....
Yikes!!
We even filled the egg basket with tomatoes....since we are getting no eggs right now.

These little carrots are so cute..........

We ended up with lots of green and red tomatoes, carrots, green onions, a few straggling peppers and seven eggplants. Not to bad for my tiny garden and the end of the season.

Now we must eat it all! I wonder who in the family will be sick of tomatoes first???

Your late season garden bounty makes for great photos. I really like the colors and shapes of the tomatos in the second one!

If you're getting cold weather, it should reach us in a couple days. It was very chilly at our football game this evening.

Glad you dropped by.

I's been some time since I was in your area - a good friend lives in Cedarville CA and after a stay there I would sometimes drive east .... don't know if that's near your Northern Nevada.

Can't imagine too many post turtles in your area.

That is ALOT of veggies! LOL!

I hate tomatoes but they really look pretty in the photos.

Good luck eatin' them.

Those veggies look great. I guess I shouldn't complain about our light drizzles in southern California.

Ya know, I've been cleaning up things and it's soooo hard to pull tomatoes when they are still producing! I picked tons over the past week...been turning them into tomato sause! Cook the heck out em for days...(there goes my power bill again!) So far, 7 gallons I've put up! Hope hubby learns to love tomatoes!! **wink
We still haven't had a killing frost...but it's felt like winter here for 2 days, this afternoon actually warmed up which was nice!
