My Day

I turned 45 on July 4th.
I captured my day in photos.
It was fun!

Homemade ice cream is my favorite!
I made a batch of fresh peach-vanilla ice cream and my mom made a batch of vanilla.
I had a birthday beer or two!
My dad always has the flag out on the porch!
I'm proud to be a 4th of July baby!
There was music at the local park.
Our son runs the soundboard for a local band that performed that day.
There was fun with family in the park while listening to music!
 Birthday presents!
Even mom had a beer to celebrate the day!
 The cake!
I shared my day with our son, hubby and my sister's fiancé!
All of our names on the cake!
(we all celebrate birthdays in July just days apart!)
 The kids!
They were both able to spend most of the day with me!
Best present ever!
 Fireworks rounded out the day!
Yes, those fireworks were just for me!
(Hey, that's what I'd always been told growing up!)

Gonna Ride that Donkey, Donkey

Have you ever seen this type of "Donkey" before?
I hadn't!

When I pulled up behind it last week, I had to snap a photo.

The new "Donkey" song by Jerrod Niemann popped into my head.
It's a silly song with a catchy tune and seeing this "Donkey" gave it whole new meaning.

Ring Bling

The new "girls" seem to have a thing for Bling!

They were fascinated with my ring and moved ever closer for an inspection of it.

Then they had a discussion about how pretty it was and tried to grab it off my hand and run.

I guess even chickens think "Diamonds are a girls best friend!"

Early Summer Catch Up

Yesterday was the first day of summer, but summer around here begins with the first cutting of hay which started earlier this month.
First cutting is officially done and in the stack.
The days for the most part, have been mild and warm, which has been nice.

Days in the 80's make for pretty, cloud filled, blue summer skies.

This month is going by fast!
My office at work is finally put back together after the flood and repairs.
Being displaced for several weeks was no fun at all!
Things at work have now resumed their usually hectic pace!

I try to find time to enjoy a little reading and wine when I can!

The neighbor girls worked hard on this pallet flag and gave it to me last week!
I LOVE it!

It was the perfect decoration for Flag Day on June 14th.
It sits proudly on my patio along with some pretty flowers that I purchased a few weeks back.

Strawberry Pie

It's June 1st already!
How did that happen!
Today was the perfect day to make a pie.
I contributed for a case of strawberries from Bountiful Baskets this past weekend.
I picked them up on Saturday and they were gorgeous!

I cleaned them all up today.
Froze some for later and then decided to make a pie.

One of my favorite pies growing up was the strawberry pie from Marie Calendar's.
So I did a little pinterest search and found a recipe that sounded similar.
I used this recipe and made this pie!

There is an added benefit to this pie...
Everyone is gone, hubby on a fishing trip and daughter on a  house sitting job.
So that means...this entire pie is mine!

Mine, mine, mine, mine, mine!

REMEMBER

It is but a simple thing to stop and remember those that have given the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms and this great nation! Memorial Day is a day of remembrance! So take a moment to remember all of the countless men and women that have laid down their lives to protect our freedoms, for they did so willingly and without hesitation! For many it's just a three day weekend. For others it is a painful reminder of what they have lost! Let that loss not be in vain! Take a moment to Remember!

A Little Work and A Little Wine

Hubby installed some portable fencing around the coop so the chickens can free range a bit.
They don't get the run of the place due to predators like hawks, coyote, fox, an occasional eagle and other critters that might do them harm.
But a little fenced in area is just perfect for them right now.

The day we worked outside was chilly, with a bit of a wind, but the view while working was beautiful!
The hay fields are getting taller by the day!
Now I can enjoy a little wine time with my girls while they explore their new area!
Yes, I enjoy sitting in the coop, with a glass of wine and watching my babies and my older hens fuss around!
Told ya I was the crazy chicken lady!

Stick Ponies and Other Things

Stick ponies make me smile!
My daughter has always wanted a horse and made her own stick pony when she was little.
She says we would never buy her one...stick pony that is.
So every time I see a stick pony, it makes me smile.

Life has been hectic!
We have made several trips to the big city in the past month for health related stuff.
I had to have an MRI done on my neck.
What an interesting process that was!

The entire time I was in the MRI tube, I kept thinking, "beam me up Scotty."
I finally have answers to why my arm/neck/upper back area was going numb for over three months!
I have three discs in my neck that are basically gone, two bone spurs with another one forming and osteoarthritis in my neck!
It explains the neck grinding and upper back pain as well.

It looks like I will have surgery later this year!
In the meantime, I'm undergoing physical therapy in hopes it will help some.

I really wasn't going to blog about it, but decided to write it all down.

Work is keeping me busy!
There are days I wish I didn't have to get up and go to work, but then I wouldn't have health insurance, so it's good thing I have a job.

To those that would say, well you can just get Obama Care....yeah right!
NOT!
What a crock of crap that stuff is!
I won't go into a rant either cause it's not worth it!
There are times I think this country is going straight into the shitter!

The baby chicks are growing up quickly!
They are fully feathered and all moved out to the grow-out coop!
One is currently with me at work as she received an injury last night when she somehow got in with the big girls and they picked on her.
It's fun having a chicken at work with me!
I'm either a crazy chicken lady or a good chicken momma...not sure which though.
Some would say I  lean more to the crazy side!
HA!

I guess it's a good thing that stick ponies can still make me smile!
